Like a mass of ice which has broken off a glacier and is floating by itself in the ocean until it finally melts, the deciding Test between England and SA has been spotted in south London having become detached from the main body of cricket almost 10 days ago.
SA’s cricketers spent a week enjoying “time away from the game” but will have spent the days before Thursday’s start at the Oval doing normal nets and training. Given what’s at stake for the Proteas — victory will go a long way towards a return to London and the final of the World Test Championship next year — it’s been a peculiar period of preparation. ..
