After 30 years of travelling in SA, I think I’ve cracked it. It’s very easy to get lost in the weeds when mulling the quality of a tourist destination.
You can fret about thread counts and pillow menus, but, aside from the people, actually none of it matters as much as one thing. It can be the most absurdly luxurious place in the world or a forgettable little cottage in a Karoo dorpie. Both live or die by their stoep. The rest is details...
