Janine Wedel’s excellent article (Lack of trust creates a US more like Iron Curtain countries, November 9) clearly delineates the reason Donald Trump is the next US president. For too long, the "upper intelligentsia" of liberal and often left-wing people populating government, media and other thought-forming entities have created and controlled their countries. These elites have driven policies that negatively affect the current and future wellbeing of the middle class and blue-collar workers. One instance is the massive invasion of Mexicans, and to a lesser extent South Americans, into the US. The elites and big business defend their policy on the basis that these people fill the positions locals do not want. Truth is, the presence of these foreigners drives down wages to a level ordinary North Americans are not willing to accept, as well as cluttering up schools with Hispanic speakers to the detriment of American-English speakers.
