It was first reported in early September (by the New York Times) that Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta was planning to add advertising-free but paid tiers to its service options, specifically for adult users in Europe.

On Monday Meta confirmed in an announcement on its company news blog that it would indeed introduce a new subscription tier in Switzerland, the EU and the European Economic Area which includes Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, “to comply with evolving European regulations”...
