Downpours batter Durban, flooding roads, schools and informal settlements
Pictures of water-logged golf courses‚ schools‚ roads and sports grounds flooded social media as downpours battered Durban on Monday afternoon.A Mercedes-Benz ML was half submerged in Quarry Road‚ near Clare Estate‚ where water gushed into an informal settlement built alongside the road. And in nearby Clare Road‚ another Mercedes-Benz had been abandoned after becoming stuck in water.Pupils were forced to leave their classes at Manor Gardens School near Glenwood as water pooled in the corridors.IPS medical rescue service reported attending to many accidents as a result of the rain, mainly north of Durban.One social media user‚ Neville Bernstein‚ posted a picture of the water-logged Royal Durban Golf Course.Flood warnings were circulated on social media for the following areas:On the N2 to the Durban Galleria area in Amanzimtoti; near the cement factory on the N2 before Edwin Swales; on the Umhlanga N2 north-bound just after the off ramp; opposite the Chatsglen railway station on the ...
