PRAISE continued to flood in on Monday for Independent Electoral commissioner Raenette Taljaard whose resignation was announced by President Jacob Zuma on Friday.Ms Taljaard is the second-highest profile resignation from the commission following that of the then chairwoman Pansy Tlakula in September 2014.Ms Taljaard’s departure follows the recent nomination of presidential adviser Vuma Mashinini by the home affairs committee to replace Ms Tlakula. This has led to speculation that the two are connected.Ms Taljaard, a former Democratic Alliance MP, who now lectures politics at the University of Cape Town said on Monday she had resigned a week ahead of Mr Mashinini’s nomination so the two were not connected.
