The inspector-general of intelligence is investigating the authenticity of the intelligence report used by President Jacob Zuma to justify firing Pravin Gordhan as finance minister, the office confirmed this week. Advocate Jay Govender, the legal adviser in the inspector-general’s office, said the office was investigating the issue after a complaint by the SACP. Although it is known that the SACP’s Solly Mapaila submitted an affidavit to the office and the DA lodged a complaint with the intelligence watchdog, this is the first time the inspector-general has confirmed investigating the authenticity of the intelligence report cited by Zuma. "The inspector-general is undertaking an investigation into the so-called ‘intelligence report’ based on a complaint received from the [SACP].… The investigation is ongoing and at this stage no time frames have been allocated," Govender said.
