FORMER North West social development MEC Ontlametse Mochware made history on Tuesday for the shortest period in office, resigning on the same day she was sworn in.Ms Mochware’s premature resignation was forced after it emerged that she had been illegally appointed to the post by the African National Congress (ANC). Ms Mochware did not appear on the ANC provincial election list, but the ANC pushed her appointment through.The secretary of the legislature, Mamokwena Gaoretelelwa, said on Wednesday the instruction to appoint Ms Mochware came from the ANC. Premier Supra Mahumapelo said he just executed the ANC’s decisions, while provincial secretary Dakota Legoete was not available for comment.Fenny Gaolaolwe has been appointed the new MEC.Highly placed sources in the ANC and the legislature said North West Judge President Monica Leeuw last Wednesday refused to swear in Ms Mochware as MPL, saying she did not qualify.
