Last week Auditor-General Kimi Makwetu informed South Africans that he had recalled a team auditing the eThekwini Municipality due to death threats. This followed a report tabled by the auditor-general in Parliament that said South African municipalities blew more than R28.4bn on fruitless and wasteful expenditure in the past financial year.
