SA’s embattled leader, President Jacob Zuma, on Thursday night found himself in a predicament from which he could not escape. He could not backtrack on his plans to reshuffle his Cabinet. He must have considered striking a deal with potential successors to minimise his exposure to future “legal risks”. But Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma’s proxy campaign for the ANC presidency would have been as good as dead, and his adversaries would have smelt his weakness. So Zuma pressed ahead.
