ON TUESDAY, the Municipal Demarcation Board announced "the redetermination of municipal boundaries of Emfuleni, Midvaal local municipalities and Sedibeng district municipality, amalgamating them into a single metropolitan municipality".In political terms, Midvaal municipality, run by the Democratic Alliance (DA), will be merged with its two neighbouring municipalities, Emfuleni and Sedibeng, run by the African National Congress (ANC). Together they will create the "Vaal" metro, Gauteng’s fourth such local government structure.Of the three affected municipalities, Midvaal is an outstanding example of excellence, not just in the province but also nationally.
