‘Toxic cancer’ Hlaudi Motsoeneng must be cut from the SABC, and SARS commissioner Tom Moyane’s covert unit is exposed
Stories of Note Bytes from the digital world Jacob Zuma has stuck with the Guptas, saying the country’s big banks needed to be probed for closing the family’s bank accounts. Hlaudi Motsoeneng is a "toxic cancer that needs to be cut from the body [of the SABC]", DA lawyer Anton Katz argued in the High Court on Wednesday. The case to have Motsoeneng removed from the SABC continued on Thursday. South African Revenue Service (SARS) commissioner Tom Moyane’s new covert unit is not so covert anymore. He says its "mandate is only in as far as it relates to SARS employees involved in alleged criminal activities and tax matters". The unit will need two vehicles, a safe house and a "secret cost centre" — perhaps much like the "rogue unit" that Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has had to answer for.
