THE National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa will picket at companies in the metals and engineering sectors that have locked out its members, it said on Tuesday, and warned it might launch secondary strikes at the customers of these firms.Four weeks of striking in the sectors came to a partial end on Tuesday, after employer bodies, except the National Employers Association of South Africa (Neasa), inked a three-year wage settlement with Numsa and five other trade unions within the bargaining council.Representatives of 10,500 companies and 300,000 employees in the Metals Engineering Industries Bargaining Council signed the agreement, which will immediately apply to all parties — with the exception of 3,000 companies that are represented by Neasa.Neasa maintains its members cannot afford pay increases above 8%.
