Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga wants Parliament and the DA to take action against one of its MPs for "unethical conduct" and "serious breach" of the matric examination protocol. In a letter to DA chief whip John Steenhuisen, Motshekga says action must be taken against party MP and education spokesperson Gavin Davis, for violating "the fundamental tenets of confidentiality" relating to the exam. Earlier in January, Davis questioned the way education quality-assurance body Umalusi adjusted the matric results in its standardisation process. Davis suggested that marks were adjusted in subjects where scores were low in the absence of evidence that the question papers were more difficult. He said he feared marks were being artificially inflated.
