ANC treasurer Zweli Mkhize has moved to calm jitters in business circles about ructions related to Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, the Treasury and the Reserve Bank after a tumultuous two weeks in SA politics. In a frank address at the Sanlam board cocktail function in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Tuesday, Mkhize touched on all issues which have hurt confidence in recent weeks, but avoided the issue of growing calls from inside and outside the ANC for the removal of President Jacob Zuma. Mkhize assured business that the ANC, Zuma and Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa all supported Gordhan. Further, the party "trusted the Treasury to run fiscal policy and the department had the full support of the government" in what they were doing.
