ANGLOGOLD Ashanti has urged the Ghanaian government to tackle the flood of illegal miners onto its property at the suspended Obuasi mine on which infrastructure is being vandalised and the ore body illegally exploited.AngloGold wants the authorities to remove the illegal miners so that it can complete a feasibility study into restarting the mine, conclude an investment agreement with the government, and find a partner to capitalise Obuasi’s redevelopment."The situation with respect to the hundreds of illegal miners who invaded the Obuasi Gold Mine in early February continues to deteriorate, with the illegal miners pillaging the ore body and damaging infrastructure," AngloGold said on Thursday.
