The cause of Brits who were hoping the Brexit referendum result might be reversed if they delayed long enough has not been helped by an opinion poll that identified a completely fictitious person as the second-most widely recognised Welsh representative in the European Parliament. Sky News reported that Elwyn Davies, who does not exist, came in second only to UK Independence Party MEP Nathan Gill in name recognition, ahead of real-life MEPs Jill Evans, Derek Vaughan and Kay Swinburne. Those surveyed were asked: "Which, if any, of the following people are among Wales’ four representatives in the European Parliament?" They were given only 30 seconds to answer. Principal investigator Prof Roger Scully of Cardiff University said: "It’s difficult to know what to say about some of these results. It is, I think, probably unsurprising Nathan Gill came tops, given the higher profile his role in the Assembly election was giving him.
