The Gupta family has known soon-to-be owner of Tegeta Resources, Amin Alzarooni, for some time and had even embarked on a luxury hunting safari with him in Limpopo two years ago. They spent a day in the Hoedspruit wilderness chasing down buffalo before retiring to their rooms at the five-star Kapama Karula Game Lodge. The safari trip cost the Guptas a little more than R140,000 for two nights. They also hired a professional hunting outfit to show the visiting party around. Through leaked e-mails, it has been determined that the group had shot two buffalo bulls each with a price tag of $9,000, or, factoring in exchange rates at the time, a total of just more than R200,000. The unfortunate buffalo ended up on the taxidermy table.
