As I was listening to an interview conducted by Vuyo Mvoko with deputy chief justice Raymond Zondo on the work of the state capture commission, I concluded that the ANC cadre deployment policy was on trial. The practice of deploying cadres to state institutions is one political vehicle available to the ANC as the ruling party. However, if one analyses the ANC’s cadre deployment policy it is not practised fully, with cadres behaving differently to what the policy seeks to achieve. The fact that deployed cadres are abusing their positions which allow them to access state resources, speaks to their low levels of political and professional consciousness. Considering the above, one needs to ask what needs to be done with the cadres that will be deployed in state institutions after the May 8 elections?
