As the fans were settling into their seats at Loftus before the weekend’s big United Rugby Championship (URC) derby, another game was ending in Johannesburg. About 50km separated the two venues, but time rather than distance would be a better measurement of the difference between the two events.
The Pretoria game between the Bulls and Stormers was what thankfully we are starting to become used to again post-Covid. A tight struggle was won by the Stormers in a charged atmosphere in front of 41,000 spectators. The Lions and Sharks game was by comparison caught in a time-warp and was reminiscent of the trend developing at franchise level pre-Covid...
