It is with some pride that I write that I was the first customer at the Vasco da Gama Taverna in Green Point on Sunday morning. It was near enough noon, I had built up a thirst on a 109km ride around the Cape Peninsula and the air was just the right temperature for drinking beer.
Could I get a Castle Tank? The waiter would have to ask Sue if it was OK. I mentioned that I knew Graeme Smith, who was a partner here, and had his number...
