The DA will oppose what it describes as an "ill-conceived" attempt by President Jacob Zuma to have the public protector’s State of Capture report set aside. Zuma has launched a court case to set aside the report – former public protector Thuli Madonsela’s swansong – and wants the court to order that the matter to be sent back to Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane for "further investigation". The report details damning allegations of an improper relationship between the president and the Gupta family. However, instead of making findings, Madonsela directed that a judicial commission of inquiry be set up, with a judge to head it selected by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng.
