Mum was coming out from the UK for a visit. Brilliant. Then it dawned on me that it would mean that she would be the third adult in a car along with two kids. A family sedan just wouldn’t cut it. I realised that we needed one of those things — a mum’s taxi. It needed to have seven seats, but also luggage space. The latter requirement is more of an issue than many people think. It meant ignoring many of the cool seven-seaters which basically only have space in the boot for a laptop bag and certainly not enough capacity for a pushchair, luggage and all the paraphernalia that goes with a baby and a toddler. What about a Hyundai H1, a Mercedes Vito or a Ford Tourneo? All great vehicles, but all vans with seats and varying degrees of comfort. A Honda Mobilio or Toyota Avanza? No thanks.
