Discovery CEO Adrian Gore says SA’s problems are not insurmountable. "We tend to have a problem of the day. In the ’90s it was HIV/AIDS, then it became labour issues and load shedding, now it’s state capture. "The fact that these problems are changing means they are not intractable," Gore said at the Discovery Leadership Summit on Monday. "South Africans are too negative about the country." South Africans did not see the progress, even though there had been a significant reduction in poverty and GDP per capita was nearly double the size it was in 1994, he said. "If you are seeking only the negative, you don’t understand that there is a lot to lose. Potential loss is more motivating than potential gain, this is a critical issue. We think we have nothing to lose; we do," Gore said. "We have tremendous assets in our country, make sure that the people you lead see the country for the potential it has."
