THE Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) has entered into a R1bn telecommunications partnership agreement (TPA) with Vodacom, that will allow the service provider to lease the agency’s dark fibre optic cables for the next 15 years.On Thursday, Prasa said the deal would "go some way towards the call for data prices to fall".The deal was entered into by Prasa’s subsidiary, Intersite Asset Investments.Last week Vodacom won an estimated R5bn government contract to supply data and voice services to as many as 1.3-million government employees for four years. The deal was the biggest one the company had signed with the public sector. The deal is expected to save the Treasury money and provide government departments with a reliable telecommunications supplier.Vodacom’s TPA with Prasa will allow Intersite to provide information and communication technology (ICT) services to the rail agency group and other entities across the country, said Prasa in a statement on Thursday.
