Woolworths said on Thursday it had launched free Wi-Fi in 85 stores nationally, as customers continue to shift to online and mobile shopping platforms this festive season. The retailer has to date experienced double-digit growth in online sales since the start of the holiday period, with more than half of e-commerce purchases happening on mobile devices. In preparation for a surge in online transactions, Woolworths also launched its first dedicated warehouse, referred to as a "dark store", to provide the storage and delivery of clothing, beauty and homeware products purchased online. The dark store has also contributed to the drive in online sales, due to enhanced product availability coupled with investment in dedicated online stock support.
