It is difficult to understand precisely what Ace Magashule, secretary-general of the ANC, wants to achieve on his trip to visit President Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela. Given that Venezuela is a failed state with pariah status, perhaps Magashule is seeking pointers for our government. SA can offer nothing to Venezuela, not in the form of aid nor in the way of diplomacy. That the ANC should choose Magashule for this visit, given his credentials and background, is ominous indeed. God forbid the ANC wants to align our country with Venezuela. Nathan CheimanNorthcliff
