The report that the Independent Regulatory Body of Auditors (Irba) investigation into possible wrongdoing by KPMG has ground to a halt refers (KPMG’s ‘incomplete’ data stalls probe into alleged wrongdoing in report on ‘rogue unit’, December 12). Johan van der Walt and his colleagues at KPMG SA, subsequently ably abetted by KPMG international chairman Bill Thomas and KPMG SA CEO Nhlamu Dlomu (who isn’t even a CA), have all trashed the reputation of the auditing profession by using subterfuge and sleight of hand, causing major damage to the South African economy and the reputation of good men such as Pravin Gordhan. Along the way they have been paid millions in audit and other professional fees. Now, along with all their Irba mates and Irba CEO Bernard Agulhas, they have flipped the bird to all of us.
