In all the denials by Joao Rodriguez and his associates, some words spoken by Hendrik van den Bergh might shed a little more light on the Ahmed Timol matter. Van den Bergh, the moving force of the state security apparatus at the time, the Bureau of State Security (BOSS), is reported to have said once: "My men were loyal to me; they would have done anything for me; they would have killed for me…" Rodriguez would not have got to where he was, however humble his position, had he not had Van den Bergh’s approval.
