I am proud of ANC MP Dr Makhosi Khoza. The workings of her mind are not hamstrung by political dogma but energised by pragmatism and the desire to build an egalitarian society. This is causing her colleagues in the ANC sleepless nights. It seems most of them would rather put up with President Jacob Zuma’s misrule and condone his inability to live up to the constitutional demands of his office, than see merit in Khoza’s clarion call for them to exercise their consciences in determining Zuma’s fate as the country’s president. A disturbing feature of Zuma’s tenure has been the series of philandering allegations, a point Khoza alluded to in her notes when she addressed the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation meeting recently. Many claims of women abuse have been made against the president, some so lurid they do not deserve repeating here. We have to remember Khwezi and many other victims of abuse by powerful elites.
