Mark Turner claims (Obfuscating the truth, July 12) that I was wrong in claiming that fossil fuels were growing more strongly than renewable energy. Forgive the repetition, but fossil fuels are increasing annually by about 149-million tonnes of oil equivalent (mtoe), whereas renewable energies are growing at only 33 mtoe. Turner says "renewables are catching up pretty quickly". I fear he may be a victim of our system of mathematics education. Philip LloydRosebank, Cape Town
