THE South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (Sapvia) applauds the leadership shown by Energy Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson (We can’t turn back on the path of IPPs, July 29).The minister has provided much-needed clarity on SA’s energy policy and reaffirmed the crucial role renewable energy plays in adding diversity to the mix. Our members will take heart that SA is still committed to the roll-out of low-cost renewable energy and hope this will be reflected in an increased allocation for solar energy in the Integrated Resource Plan update under review.Sapvia and its members wait in anticipation for the closing of round four projects and extensions, the Small Independent Power Producer (IPP) project round, as well as the announcement regarding the adjudication of the expedited Renewable Energy IPP programme bid window.Many of our members have been hard hit by the additional costs incurred due to the delay in closing these rounds.
