Together with an impressive group of women and men who have Wits as their alma mater, I have, reluctantly, been sucked into the unfolding saga on fees. We ended two weeks of involvement without a neat exit. One of the charismatic leaders of the #FeesMustFall movement at Wits — and there are a few — sadistically but insightfully blurted in the wee hours of one of our many long nights of negotiations with student leaders and university administration that "you are stuck with us and you will go down with us". Although the threat was directed at us mediators, it should more appropriately have been directed at society and "down" should have been "forward".
