It had yet to be seen if the public protector would change her stance on the constitutional powers vested in the president, as happened in her concession that only Parliament has the power to amend the Reserve Bank’s mandate, Judge Motsamai Makume said on Friday on a possible state-capture inquiry. Makume ordered that the DA’s application for a probe to be set up be put on hold, pending the outcome of President Jacob Zuma’s review of the remedial action in the public protector’s state-capture report. The president has been granted a postponement in implementing the remedial action. The DA and the public protector both opposed the president’s application.
