Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has exonerated former Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) acting CE Collins Letsoalo of allegations that he hiked his salary 350%, saying that, after receiving representations from him, it was clear to her that it “could not be true”. The minister made the statement in an affidavit in response to the former Prasa board’s legal challenge to its instant axing by the minister on March 8. In court papers, Peters complained that her relationship with the Prasa board had broken down irretrievably and that she could no longer trust the structure with fiduciary duties, hence its hasty dissolution. The crisis at Prasa continues unabated with the parastatal now under the stewardship of an interim board, pending the outcome of the court challenge. A new acting CEO is in place.
