THE chief operating officer of wire manufacturer Cape Gate has accused one of its alleged colluders, the Allens Meshco Group, of attempting to meddle with Competition Tribunal proceedings.Barend Coetzee, who continued testifying on Wednesday in the hearing into the so-called wire manufacturing cartel, last week submitted two supposedly damning letters to a Competition Tribunal panel.Cape Gate, Allens Meshco and Consolidated Wire Industries (CWI) are accused of engaging in collusive tendering and price-fixing between 2001 and 2008.CWI received conditional leniency for blowing the whistle on the cartel, but Cape Gate and Allens Meshco were referred to the tribunal for prosecution in 2009.Cape Gate has admitted its role in the cartel, but Allens Meshco has denied involvement.Mr Coetzee claimed that Allens Meshco director Rick Allen had approached him and asked him not to testify before the tribunal.Mr Allen promised in exchange not to insist that Cape Gate hand over confidential docume...
