One of SA’s leading jockeys, Greg Cheyne, led the tributes to fellow rider Alec Forbes, who died following a short illness.Forbes, 41, had ridden a winner at Scottsville on Wednesday, August 23. Later in the day, he said he was not feeling well and was admitted to hospital, where he died.Cheyne, vice-chairman of the Coastal Jockeys Association, said: "We are all deeply shocked. Our sincerest condolences go to Alec’s wife, Lezeanne; son Zac; as well as Jordan and Savannah, who live in Europe."He was a top-class rider and gentleman of the sport. I spoke to Alec on Gold Cup day and he said he was nursing a broken foot. He was in good spirits.
