FORMER Limpopo premier Cassel Mathale, who resigned his position on Monday amid political pressure from the African National Congress (ANC), is expected to be redeployed to Parliament.Two sources close to the embattled premier said on Monday Mr Mathale, viewed as an opponent of President Jacob Zuma, was due for a position in Cape Town. Prominent South African Communist Party provincial leader Stan Mathabatha is a front runner to take over as Limpopo’s new premier.ANC national executive committee member and former Reserve Bank governor Tito Mboweni had also been touted among those who could replace Mr Mathale. Mr Mboweni on Monday declined to comment, but it is understood that he rejected the offer.The decision to recall Mr Mathale — just months before the national elections — follows a Cabinet reshuffle in which another of Mr Zuma’s opponents, Tokyo Sexwale, was sacked as human settlements minister.
