Better a cruel truth than a comfortable delusion: the ANC of Nelson Mandela and Albert Luthuli is dead. Multiracialism is dead; the struggle legacy is dead — the dream has succumbed through slow strangulation. The remaining ghastly spectre haunting our political landscape is driven by the new racism and a buffoon-tyrant so inept he has outsourced his own kleptocracy. The face of this new racism across our national capital shines out: the scourge of the 3Ms (Matsena-Mashego-Mojapelo) selectively wipes their own members off party rolls, eradicates coloureds and others’ representation off their municipal election lists and bans minorities from ANC policy conferences, while implausibly denying their very deeds. Then there is His Excellency, cadre "Dr" Carl Niehaus, sporting combat pyjamas on a balcony on state television: the spectacle forbids mockery for the scale of the farce. D BrouwerVia e-mail
