Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini’s recent comment that there were other senior government leaders "who are worse culprits" than Mduduzi Manana reveals the miscreants that purport to lead our country. Her attempt to lessen Manana’s alleged assault devalues the fight against gender-based violence in SA. The minister had previously demonstrated her ineptitude during the social-grants crisis in March and was called "a rogue minister" in the National Assembly by the Inkatha Freedom Party’s Liezl van der Merwe. But Dlamini had not yet concluded with her insolence. She said Manana had been unfairly treated by the media, while other senior government leaders who faced similar accusations had not been put under similar pressure to resign. Had they been, we would quite possibly have been left with no one in the government. Nathan Cheiman Northcliff
