CAROL PATON: Dlamini-Zuma puts her shortcomings on display in campaign
It's significant that Jacob Zuma and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma share the view that they are accountable only to the ANC, not the Constitution or public opinion
While the evidence suggests that Cyril Ramaphosa is leading Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma in the ANC presidential race, anything can still happen. In weekend reports, Team NDZ campaigners said CR17 had been fortunate to get its nominations in earlier, creating the impression that he was in the lead. With the outcome of KwaZulu-Natal still not clear, this is very likely to be true. In any event, it is unwise to count the votes before they are actually cast because delegates, who vote by secret ballot, could still be given incentives to change their minds once at the conference. So the advice from Business Day’s former editor and columnist Peter Bruce, that business should make a special effort to get to know Dlamini-Zuma in advance of the conference outcome, is good advice indeed.
