While the evidence suggests that Cyril Ramaphosa is leading Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma in the ANC presidential race, anything can still happen. In weekend reports, Team NDZ campaigners said CR17 had been fortunate to get its nominations in earlier, creating the impression that he was in the lead. With the outcome of KwaZulu-Natal still not clear, this is very likely to be true. In any event, it is unwise to count the votes before they are actually cast because delegates, who vote by secret ballot, could still be given incentives to change their minds once at the conference.
