Experts are clever people. They know about things that most people don’t understand. Experts become clever by doing "research". When we aren’t sure about something, experts are there to guide us. We must listen to experts … decisions are complicated. Experts can show us how to make a decision. Experts show us what food to eat; how to bring up children; how we should vote and how to be good. Experts show us what is right and what is wrong. Experts who can guide us on economic matters are called "economists". Economists talk to each other about "assumptions" and agree a "consensus". They use computer spreadsheets to produce "forecasts" and "predictions". They are a bit like horoscopes. Some people think that economists should make the economy work better, but that is unfair because they are thinkers, not doers. Experts know that some people don’t like numbers and long phrases.
