Union federation Cosatu’s leaders have met President Jacob Zuma following its call for him to step down. Cosatu said its president, Sidumo Dlamini and general secretary Bheki Ntshalintshali met Zuma on Wednesday to communicate the outcomes of the special central executive committee meeting. The decision to call on the president to step down was taken at the meeting, held in Johannesburg on Monday. "The President noted the message from the federation. During the meeting, a decision was taken that a follow-up meeting should be convened that will include the members of the Cosatu CEC (central executive committee) and the members of the ANC top six after the Good Friday holiday weekend," Cosatu spokesperson Sizwe Pamla said. Zuma was said to have called Dlamini early on Tuesday morning, before Cosatu made its public call, in an attempt to smooth things over after failing to consult the federation on his far-reaching Cabinet reshuffle last week.
