Residents of Rosettenville‚ south of Johannesburg‚ have warned mayor Herman Mashaba not to politicise the drug and prostitution problems in the area. Mashaba visited the area at the weekend after residents torched three properties they believed to be brothels and drug dens run by Nigerian nationals. Reports suggested that during his visit‚ Mashaba took a swipe at the ANC‚ blaming "the previous administration" for failing to address the residents’ issues. But Rosettenville community leader Simphiwe Hlaba said it seemed that Mashaba was unaware that their ward had always been in the control of the DA. "We are not happy with him at all because on the Sunday that he came here‚ he decided to be politically opportunistic‚ blaming the previous administration‚" Hlaba said.
