Parliament’s ad hoc committee tasked with appointing a new board of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) received up to 540 applications for board membership by its Friday deadline. The ad hoc committee hopes to meet next week Monday to decide how many of the hopeful it would allow onto the shortlist. The committee must make recommendations for a new board by December 7. The NYDA has been caught up in the fraud and money laundering storm for at least three years. Former NYDA head Andile Lungisa and four others face fraud and money laundering charges after they allegedly promised that US singer R Kelly would perform at the concert, but he did not. The ANC Youth League recently called on the ad hoc committee to ease up on what it considered strict standards for candidates to be accepted on the board, including omitting the requirement for post matric qualification.
