National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams’s appearance in Parliament came as no surprise to the two NGOs that have been a thorn in the prosecutions boss’s side, and which insist he is not fit for office. Freedom Under Law chairman Judge Johann Kriegler said while Abrahams’s conduct was disheartening in the face of intense criticism, it was also to be expected. Freedom Under Law is one the NGOs challenging the multimillion-rand golden handshake former National Prosecuting Authority boss Mxolisi Nxasana received. A court case is scheduled for 2017. The organisation also wrote to Abrahams, asking him to drop a fraud charge against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan. "We are neither surprised nor disappointed. It is evident he is not fit for office and that he is impervious to the criticism that has been levelled against his office. He does not understand," said Kriegler.
