President Jacob Zuma again stated the case for moving Parliament from Cape Town to Pretoria in response to questions in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Tuesday. Since Zuma mentioned the "cost-containment" benefits of the massive move during his state of the nation address earlier this year, studies have been committed to the cost of moving the national legislature from the Western Cape to Pretoria, where the executive also resides. Government continues to support the move, despite the ANC losing control of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality (home to the Union Buildings) after a DA minority government was installed following the August local government elections. Zuma said while Parliament would be left to make a decision on the matter, the executive conducted research that concluded that the country needed one seat of government.
