GAUTENG Premier Nomvula Mokonyane announced the appointment of Eric Xayiya as the province’s new MEC for economic development in Johannesburg on Tuesday.Mr Xayiya, an African National Congress (ANC) member, replaces former economic development MEC Nkosiphendule Kolisile, who died in a car accident in the Free State in July.Ms Mokonyane said Mr Xayiya had experience in local government, including a spell as chairman of the roads and transport subcommittee in the provincial legislature.Mr Xayiya is a former mayor of Boksburg and was also an ANC co-ordinator in the Ekurhuleni region."He brings immense experience in terms of community work and work in the oversight committee in the office of the premier. He will be with us until the end of term in the province.
