Next week he has a chance of winning a R1m race.When the final field for the Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile was announced, Hewitson was a surprise booking for Gary Alexander’s talented four-year-old, Champagne Haze. He gets the chance because the horse’s regular pilot, Andrew Fortune, has been sidelined with a rib injury.The race, in which 16 charities are set to benefit, will be run at Turffontein on November 5.Champagne Haze has drawn barrier 10 of the 16 runners, which is not a great draw but it’s better than those drawn by Rabada, Captain Aldo, Romany Prince and Irish Pride, who are positioned close to the nearby Rand Stadium.Rabada, who will be making his first appearance for trainer Brett Crawford, has the right man to overcome his wide draw in big-race specialist Anton Marcus. Presumably, Marcus had the choice between Rabada, Deo Juvente and Durban July...
