Trainer Johan Janse van Vuuren had mixed fortunes in the draw for the R1m Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile to be run at Turffontein on November 5. Van Vuuren, in 10th place in the national trainers log, will be happy that his talented Aussie import, New Predator, drew barrier 13 of the 38 entries for the grade2 race. This should bring the four-year-old into a single-figure draw. However, Van Vuuren’s other entry Irish Pride, winner of the recent R750,000 Grand Heritage, drew gate 30 and it will be interesting to see if he is in the final field that will be announced next Tuesday. Two other horses to fare badly in the draw were last season’s Vodacom Durban July winner, The Conglomerate, drawn 28 and Rabada who drew 31. The latter is trained by Brett Crawford, but has been in the care of Mike de Kock at Randjesfontein for several weeks.
